What makes a hook work
- It names someone. “Freelance designers…” beats “Hey guys”.
- It promises something specific. A mistake, a result, a fix.
- It starts mid-action. No intro, no “so today I want to talk about”.
Say it, show it, start moving
For every hook:
- Say the line in the first second.
- Put the same words on screen as text.
- Have something moving: your hands, a screen recording, a cut.
Your first week
Pick one hook type a day for 6 days and film one video each. On day 7, check which type kept people watching longest and make more of those.
Video hooks FAQ
What is a video hook?
The first 1–3 seconds of a short video: the line (and visual) that makes someone stop scrolling and keep watching.
How long should a hook be?
One sentence, ideally under 3 seconds when spoken. Put the most interesting word first.
Do hooks work for service providers, not just creators?
Yes. Freelancers and coaches can use mistake, proof and call-out hooks to show their expertise to the exact people who might hire them.
Can I use the same hook more than once?
Yes. Reuse hook structures with different topics. Repeating a format your audience already likes is how most consistent posters work.
Should I put the hook on screen as text?
Yes. Say it and show it. Many people watch with the sound off.
